Bio
Dionne A. Miller is an Associate Professor of Chemistry in the Natural Sciences Department at LaGuardia Community College. Since 2009, Dr. Miller has taught chemistry courses for science and non-science majors.

Dr. Miller’s research on the optical properties of nanomaterials led her to partner with Dr. Ilona Kretzschmar, Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at City College of New York, to introduce nanoscience into the undergraduate chemistry curriculum. Through a National Science Foundation (NSF) Grant, Dr. Miller developed a nanoscience component taught in both General Chemistry I and II courses. The grant allowed her to introduce students to atomic force microscopy, one of the more technologically advanced characterization methods in nanoscience.

Additionally, Dr. Miller has mentored several undergraduate students in research in nanoshells, some of whom have presented at such national conferences, as the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS), including a female student who won Best Poster Award in her area.

Dr. Miller received her BS in Pure and Applied Chemistry from the University of the West Indies and her MA and PhD in Chemistry from the City University of New York Graduate Center. She holds postgraduate diplomas in Management Studies from the University of the West Indies and in Technical Education from the University of Technology, Jamaica.
